Events - 3rd Annual Mountain Brewers Beer Festival
Beer Returns to Idaho Falls.....
3rd Annual Mountain Brewers Beer Festival and "Best in the West" TM Commercial Beer Competition
Saturday - June 7, 1997 - 1 to 7pm
McDermott Field, Idaho Falls, Idaho
To benefit the Colonial Arts Center Restoration Project
Co-sponsored by Dr.Hops, Idaho Brewing, and the Idaho Falls Braves, the Mountain Brewers Beer Festival will once again draw crowds of beer lovers from Wyoming, Montana, Utah, Oregon and Washington. Fast becoming a "premier" beer event, more than 50 brewers will converge on Idaho Falls for what has become the Inter-mountain West's largest beer festival. Festival organizer and beer author Gregg Smith says "This event offers our region a unique opportunity to sample the best brews from the Northwest and beyond. Better yet, all proceeds go to restoration of the Colonial Arts Center."
The Festival is scheduled for June 7, 1997 at McDermott Field (the city's minor league ballpark) and will run from 1 to 7pm. Ticket prices will be held at last year's price with advance tickets selling for $10 per person, $15 per couple ($12 and $20 at the door) and $2 for designated drivers.
Tom Hartwell, co-director stresses that Beer is only half the name. "The festival provides a lot of fun for non-drinkers. In addition to beer, there'll be live music, a variety of root beer and cream sodas, food, raffle items, a silent auction of art work, and the chance to spread a blanket in the outfield and enjoy the afternoon."
This year a commercial beer judging, on Friday the 6th of June, will precede the festival. Sponsored by the United States Brewers Association, Northern Rockies Brew Review and the Beer and Tavern Chronicle. Beers from throughout the west will be competing for the gold, silver, and bronze medals awarded to the "Best in the West" beers. A blind judging of the beers conducted by professionals and certified judges will take place the day before the fest and winners will be announced at the beginning of the Saturday festival, which will present fest go'ers the opportunity to sample the winning brews.
Centrally located 2 hours from Jackson Hole, Yellowstone, and Sun Valley, and only 3 hours from Salt Lake, Idaho Falls has repeatedly been rated as one of the country's top 10 outdoor recreation destinations.
